From Creating Healthier Communities: "CHC President and CEO Jean Accius, PhD, spoke at the recent Milken Institute 2023 Global Conference, held at The Beverly Hilton. The session, “Growing Up Online: Youth Mental Health in a Modern World Part 2,” followed a session with musician, actor and activist Demi Lovato. NBC News correspondent Savannah Sellers moderated both parts of the session. Other panelists speaking alongside Jean included Nina Davuluri, Activist, Speaker, Filmmaker and Former Miss America; John MacPhee, CEO, Jed Foundation; and Michael Preston, Executive Director, Joan Ganz Cooney Center, Sesame Workshop.

This year’s conference centered around the theme: “Advancing a Thriving World,” with content including Capital Access and Economic Opportunity; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Health and Medical Research; Financial Markets; Regions and Developing Markets; Sustainability and Environment; Society and Culture; and Security and Risk.

“Growing Up Online: Youth Mental Health in a Modern World” addressed the way children and adolescents communicate and consume information all affects their mental health. Though the constant flow of media allows users to connect meaningfully with friends and family, learn new skills, and access health information, digital technology can expose youth to bullying, and contribute to body dysmorphia, anxiety, or suicidal ideation. Now there is a growing movement to ensure youth’s safety online and to design tools that foster positive outcomes."
